On Guilt
There are numerous reasons why this may be the most difficult feeling that human beings are ever challenged with or by. The perspective in which we hate ourselves, and that loosely is guilt, should be examined every now and again. Though, being something that we determinately go out of our way to avoid, it somehow finds us—no matter where we go. It’s hard to even imagine a guilt free existence given our culture, history, and morality. Yet, all the same, we go about our days pretending that it doesn’t exist, especially in regards to ourselves. It’s interesting that we’ve been burdened with the pervasiveness of this feeling since ancient times. One might recall the prophecy that Oedipus was a part of and the fate that he was dealt. Artistically, tragedy stems from guilt, and comedy from embarrassment. There’s something funny about people being out of line or in poor taste.
